How do I find you?
We are located in Kitsilano on the corner of Bayswater and Broadway, a block west of McDonald St. Our main entrance is on Bayswater St, opposite the Tomato Cafe, about 10 meters from the intersection. Parking is located at the back of the building accessed through the lane, and costs $1 per two hours. View our location on Google Maps.
Do I need a referral?
No Osteopathic Practitioners are primary care practitioners and you do not need a referral from a medical doctor to see them.
How long are appointments?
Your first appointment will be about an hour as it will include a thorough medical history as well as a treatment. The next appointment will be about 40 minutes.
How many treatments will I need?
This will depend on the type of complaint you have. Most simple problems will take around 4-6 weekly treatments to completely resolve. However everyone is different and it may take less or more than that depending on the complicating factors. Some people find that they need maintenance treatments to counteract the stressors from their jobs for example, and have treatment every 6-8 weeks. Others come twice and never again. Sarah will talk to you at the first consultation as to what sort of treatment regime will work best for you.
How will I feel after the treatment?
You may feel tired and achy after treatment, especially your first session. This occurs as your body is processing all the changes it needs to make after a treatment. It may take between 1-7 days to feel the full beneficial affects of a treatment. During this time it is important to not stress your body too much and you may need to modify normal sporting activities or add some gentle exercises to get the most out of your treatment. As everyone is different, your Osteopathic Practitioner will talk to you about what you can expect and any modifications to activities you may need after the treatment.
Can Osteopathic Treatment be dangerous?
Osteopathic Practitioners spend time taking a detailed medical history and performing physical examinations so that they know any technique they perform is perfectly safe. Osteopathic Practitioners are trained to pick up 'red flags' for more serious conditions and will refer to your medical practitioner if they suspect anything more serious or if you have a condition they can't deal with. Sometimes it may be beneficial to co-treat with your medical practitioner or other health care provider.
