What Happens at an Appointment?

The first thing an Osteopathic Practitioner will do is take a thorough history of your complaint and your medical history.  This enables us to better understand the cause of the complaint and helps us determine what kind of treatment will best suit you.  Then we will perform a physical exam that will include looking at posture and movement and may include relevant orthopaedic and neurological tests.  Once the Osteopathic Practitioner has determined the cause of the problem the treatment will begin.  As well as hands on techniques your Osteopathic Practitioner may prescribe some exercises for you to do at home or some postural advice for your workplace.

What kind of Techniques will be used?

Osteopathic Practitioners have many different techniques on hand, this enables them to individualise treatments and use whatever will work best for the specific person or problem.  We are well trained in soft tissue techniques such as massage; myofascial release; strain counterstrain; muscle energy technique; low amplitude joint articulation; joint manipulation, stretching; balanced ligamentous tension and cranial therapy.  Your Osteopathic Practitioner may choose to use all techniques or focus on one of two.
